It seems that Mythic’s MMO isn’t doing that well. They recently closed down 43 servers, which confirms the fall of Warhammer’s popularity. Mythic strikes back with the relaunch of the 10 day free trial and with major rewards for the players who decide to reactivate they’re accounts like massive experience bonus, 10 free days and special quests. Let’s see if they will succeed.

“Mythic Entertainment has sounded the Call to Arms and is calling on seasoned veterans to re-enlist and return to the ongoing Realm War in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR). Experienced fighters in North America and Asia Pacific who re-activate their game accounts will receive an Emperor’s welcome, complete with all the rested experience they’ve accumulated while absent, a special quest chain with exciting in-game rewards, and 10 free days of game time to discover why WAR is even better than ever!

Returning players will discover a plethora of updates and changes waiting for them, including:

The recently added Knight of the Blazing Sun and Black Guard tank careers

New easy, medium, and hard PQs designed for different group sizes and skill levels

Since my last post about WAR the population grew from 500.00 to 750.00. It sounds really good I’d say, especially because I’m a fan . Some bad mouths would say that Age of Conan had roughly the same number of players in the first month, but this time I think they will stay after the free month expires and the numbers will grow… but that’s just me….and all the other WAR fans out there.

Another think about WAR is that, how Mythic anticipated, players tend to prefer the Destruction faction (yeah, I think it looks cool too, but I play with the good guys because I always liked the “underdog”). And because a population disequilibrium affects the game experience especially in WAR, Mythic introduced in 1.02 patch a little something that you could call it “a bribe” . Order players receive a 20% XP and renown bonus on this realms. This should convince a lot of players to chose Order but I don’t know if this is the best way to do it, a more natural way like making some improvements in Order classes would be cooler. But in the end what works is best. I’m curious how this will affect the player distribution.
